Projects in 2010

 

During 2010 the organization realized the largest increscent in projects, staff and t in the budget realized within the year. With serious projects was engaged a permanent staff that worked in full working time that during the year has passed 15 members, and complete annual budget has been close to 400 thousand Euros. In the activation of volunteers in various forms are engaged hundreds of volunteers, of who only through democracy in action were engaged with daily salaries over 600 volunteer observers. 15 long term projects were implemented, and much more in partnership, were developed activities and campaigns, actions with voluntary work and were strengthened existing partnerships by supporting other organizations with common goal of strengthening civil society.
During this year the organization has expanded its activities in national legislation. Partnership from a year ago with ISC / USAID for the impact of the Law on Forests is continuing this year, this time with the Law on Waste, projects that required activities in the whole territory of Kosovo.

With the budget of various projects, Syri i Vizionit has been active in supporting organizations and community, supporting the initiatives and mini grants. Within the program for strengthening of civil society were supported 8 initiatives of NGO councils in the region's municipalities, 4 Serbian and Egyptian community initiatives, 3 mini projects of youth organizations in Kosovo, Serbia and Bosnia, 3 best business plans in the region of Prizren, etc. which triggered the separation of mini grants of the organization.

Organization's existing networks have continuing with activities for their own strengthening. As part of Democracy in action were monitored campaigns and central elections of Kosovo in November, and also the extraordinary elections in Istok, then in Orahovac, Prizren and Gjilan and the second round elections in Skenderaj, Drenas, Malisheva and Decan.
During this year Syri i Vizionit within the initiative for RECOM (initiative to create the mandate for a regional commission on truth in former Yugoslavia States) has had engagements in several directions at the local level, but also Kosovo and regional levels, with activities at local level and participating in several activities held abroad. As the secretariat of MOBKOS project, SiV during the year has developed the first cycling campaign in Peja. While as part of the Propeace platform was continued the conflict prevention project. Together with a group of organizations, SiV has been the founder of environmental network Eco Movement, within which were conducted several projects and campaigns.

Projects started in 2009 were continued also: the civil society strengthening project (EIDHR), for the MCSC strengthening (with EWMI), partnership with the DRC for the return and reintegration, increased supervision of law enforcement (FIQ), rural perspective projects, social dialogue in the dairy sector and for youth (with SLA) and many debates, conferences and other daily activities conducted in partnership. To strengthening and capacity building of the organization during the year with external consultation were revised the organization’s regulations and the branding was completed, which have completed further profiling of the organization.

“Democracy in Action” – Elections 2010

 

Title of the project: “Democracy in Action” – Elections 2010

Project purpose: "Democracy in Action" is established to monitor the parliamentary and local elections held in November 2007 and aiming the raise of awareness of citizens to participate in elections. Afterwards the elections were monitored in 2009 and 2010 as well as recurrence and early elections in several municipalities in Kosovo.

Beneficiaries: Direct beneficiaries are the entire population of Kosovo, the voters but also political parties. In particular, a number of people involved in the process as monthly and daily monitoring have benefited from training on the process and the electoral system in Kosovo.
Assistance in implementation MOBKOS II

Project Purpose: This project aims to increase the awareness of citizens and institutions in relation to urban mobility.

Beneficiaries: Direct beneficiaries are municipalities and the Ministry that collect information that they need about spatial planning, and take suggestions and ideas of experts on urban mobility, organizations and activists concerned with the environment and urbanism, and finally citizens of Peja by promoting campaign for the use of bicycles and parking in order to alleviate urban traffic.
Increasing public oversight in the rule of law in Kosovo II
Project Title: Increasing public oversight in the rule of law in Kosovo
Duration: 9 months (December 2009 - September 2010)

Project purpose: The project aims to affect the functioning of institutional mechanisms of accountability and involve citizens in assessing the functioning of the institutions of security and justice. In the security issues project treats topics such as organized crime (human trafficking, economic and financial crimes, and fighting narcotic substances), while in the field of justice project focuses on providing access to justice for citizens and development of justice institutions. Work on this project includes the compilation of studies and analysis, organization of public debates, and ongoing advocacy to institutions, NGOs and media.

Beneficiaries: The beneficiaries of this project are all citizens of Peja, because they were provided with more information on how much is law in Kosovo applicable and what have done institutions in fighting different negative phenomena. Also through this project, citizens had the opportunity to demand more accountability from the institutions about the work they do on restoring order and security in the city of Peja. Also beneficiaries of this project have been institutions of justice, municipal institutions, Kosovo police and civil society, because through this project have been identified several deficiencies that existed in law enforcement and fighting negative phenomena, enhancing collaboration of these institutions and better coordination of activities in the field.

Project purpose: Rural Perspective aims to improve rural living conditions and promoting sustainable economic development in western Kosovo and stimulate the farm organizations to develop innovative ideas and provide better services to their members. RURAL PERSPECTIVE is a joint initiative of the NGO Eye of Vision based in Peja and the Swiss Labour Assistance in Kosovo.

Beneficiaries: The direct beneficiaries of the project are members of ten farm organizations that have passed the second stage of the business plan competition, who have participated directly in drafting the business plan and organized workshops, also direct beneficiaries are members of three organizations that are selected as organizations with the best business plan from a neutral jury and their plans are supported by the project. Indirect beneficiaries are the families of farmers who live in rural areas.

Project Title: Development of the Action Strategy for Serbian community 2011-2013 in the municipality of Klina and support of mini projects in Peja

Project purpose: This project aims to strengthen and support the Serb community in Klina municipality by developing a three-year action plan for the community in this municipality, which will be developed based on the needs generated by the community itself. This document as action plan was provided to municipal, donors and community.

Beneficiaries: Direct beneficiaries of the project are Serb communities in Peja, Istok and Klina municipalities, while in Klina municipality is developed the action plan for three-year period that will include all requirements and need of the communities in this municipality. Also direct beneficiaries are municipalities of Peja, Istok and Klina, where besides strategies; they will be involved in training and various Work Shops within the project. At the same time direct beneficiaries of the project are also focus groups who have benefited 5 initiatives within the small grants.

Project purpose: This project aims to empower and mobilize the RAE communities in order to ensure that the provisions contained in Strategy 2007 of the Kosovo Government for the inclusion of RAE communities to be turned in practice at the municipal level.

Beneficiaries: Included were representatives of communities of neighborhoods, villages of Peja, Klina and Istok municipalities which have been directly involved in implementation of joint initiatives which are supported by small grants within the project. Also direct beneficiaries have been the municipal officials from the Office of Communities and the Office for return. The beneficiaries have been various groups and various community organizations which have also won various grants during the year.

Project purpose: The purpose of the project was to help on drafting a proper waste law in Kosovo. Our activities helped the institutions in developing the new law and in this process are involved all stakeholders in this sector, being committed so their opinions are taken into account when drafting the law and have a more comprehensive process, to have a law that would find more use in Kosovo, being at the same time in accordance with EU directives for this sector.

Beneficiaries: The beneficiaries of this project are all Kosovo municipalities, public and private companies dealing with waste management, environmental civil society as well as the government and parliament. During the drafting of this law are involved all stakeholders that are involved in environmental protection through our activities that are developed within this project.
Debate clubs in “Karl Popper” format

Project purpose: The purpose of the project is youth empowerment and activation through debate clubs composed of high school students and the establishment of debate clubs in the format "Karl Popper" in the municipalities of Peja, Prishtina and Ferizaj, developing a culture of debate for young people, that in the future these young people to be part of decision-making processes, and be willing to advocate for their rights.

Beneficiaries: The beneficiaries of this project are young people, direct beneficiaries are about 30 high school students, while beneficial in a broad sense are schools and society as these students would be willing to debate various issues that concern them and to address those issues to the respective institutions. In four schools are created debating groups (one for each school) within their institution, that in future these young people to be leaders to undertake various activities in school and out.

Project purpose: The purpose of the project is the involvement of citizens and institutions in the global movement to fight climate change, through actions that aim to raise awareness of citizens and decision-making institutions to join the UN campaign for climate change. Also influence on the central institutions about the issuance of documents that include Kosovo in the global fight against climate change.

Beneficiaries: The beneficiaries of this project are the institutions of Kosovo that will be participating with other states of the UN in the fight against climate change, benefiting funds that are given to states in the fight against climate change. Beneficiaries of this project are the citizens who will have enough knowledge about the danger posed by global warming and how they can contribute on reducing global warming.
Raising awareness against corruption

 

Project Title: Raising awareness against corruption

Project purpose: The purpose of this project is to inform citizens about the work that is being done by institutions that are responsible for fighting corruption and what role they have and what have they worked in this field; to be informed with the anti-corruption legal system that is applicable in Kosovo: how much is being implemented and which are existing mechanisms to fight corruption in Kosovo. This project has enabled the creation of a comprehensive network of nongovernmental organizations involved in anti-corruption activities, that the voice of civil society to be more powerful on institutions in the fight against corruption.

Beneficiaries: The beneficiaries are non-governmental organizations because in an organized way and coordinated activities they are more powerful to influence local and national institutions in anti-corruption fight, contributing to increase transparency. Also beneficiaries are citizens, who will be provided with information’s on how they can be part of decision-making processes and their rights to demand accountability from the institutions about their taxes.

Project purpose: The project aims to increase public oversight in the rule of law and promoting accountability and efficiency of democratic institutions of Kosovo and strengthening the capacity of oversight of institutions by civil society. It also aims to empower citizens to be more active in conducting their rights by assembling their experiences they had with the institutions and the distribution of these experiences with the wide public through published reports.

Beneficiaries: The beneficiaries of this project are the citizens, civil society, institutions and media because the transparency of institutions increases towards various interest groups, in some sectors such as the prevention of drugs, against human trafficking, economic crimes, work of police, judiciary and other public services. Through this ,citizens, civil society and other interest groups become part of processes that occur within their municipality, affecting the increase of accountability.
