Projects in 2021<\/h4>

In 2021, Syri i Vizionit continued its work across Kosovo to strengthen active citizenship, democratic governance, social inclusion, and community well-being. During the local and national elections, the organization engaged citizens in ten municipalities to gather their priorities and formalize them in the \u201cCharter of Promises,\u201d which mayoral candidates were invited to sign, creating a framework for accountability and transparency. Over 125 short-term and eight long-term observers were trained to monitor the elections, ensuring citizen participation and fair processes.<\/p>

At the community level, Syri i Vizionit focused on health and social support, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities. Awareness campaigns on COVID-19 prevention, combined with access to medicines and medical equipment, helped safeguard the health of children, women, and families. In parallel, the AQH – Accessible and Quality Healthcare project promoted awareness of hypertension, diabetes, and asthma, reaching over 300 participants across Pej\u00eb, De\u00e7an, Istog, and Klina.<\/p>

Empowering women and young female entrepreneurs remained a priority. Through training, mentorship, and practical support, 20 women farmers developed their skills in beekeeping, herb cultivation, and small-scale agriculture. The project also strengthened the \u201cPeja Bees\u201d Women Beekeepers Association, supporting its strategic development, branding, and market access.<\/p>

Child protection and rights were advanced through the \u201cOur Obligation 4 the Future\u201d program, which focused on creating safe environments for children, promoting positive parenting, and building the capacity of local institutions. Child-led groups and municipal Children\u2019s Assemblies participated in advocacy, environmental campaigns, and decision-making processes, ensuring children\u2019s voices were heard and their rights respected.<\/p>

Through the \u201cActive Citizenship Alliance,\u201d Syri i Vizionit supported citizen engagement and local governance in 19 municipalities, facilitating forums, advocacy, and digital platforms to ensure that citizens\u2019 concerns were addressed and that women\u2019s participation in decision-making increased. Finally, the organization promoted community recovery and interethnic cooperation after COVID-19 in Peja, Klina, Istog, and Rahovec, implementing needs assessments, dialogue initiatives, and small-scale grant projects to strengthen social cohesion and local collaboration.<\/p>

Perspective for the 2021 Local Elections<\/div>

\nProject Title: Perspective for the 2021 Local Elections\nDuration: 6 months (July - December 2021)\nLocation: Pej\u00eb, Istog\nImplementing Organization(s): Syri i Vizionit in partnership with Democracy Plus\nBudget: 3,383.18 euros\nDonor: Olof Palme International\n\nProject Goal: An initiative of nine civil society organizations in Kosovo operating under the coalition \u201cAlliance for Active Citizenship\u201d to monitor the fulfillment of electoral promises of municipal mayors.\nBeneficiaries: Main targeted groups are citizens in municipalities where the project is implemented and addressing their demands or concerns directed at prospective mayoral candidates in the 2021 local elections.\n\nProject Implementation: During the 2021 mayoral election campaign period, thirty gatherings were held with citizens in ten Kosovo municipalities to identify their demands toward mayoral candidates. Three gatherings were held in each municipality. The first gathering discussed general issues of concern to citizens. The second focused on a specific topic per municipality based on what local organizations deemed most necessary. The third had a common theme across all ten municipalities regarding social dialogue.\nAfter meetings, citizen demands were collected in a database and ranked according to votes during discussions, identifying priorities and less urgent requests.\nFor each municipality, a specific document called the Charter of Promises was drafted, listing citizen demands by priority and area. This Charter was presented to mayoral candidates, all of whom in the ten selected municipalities were invited to sign it as a social contract between them and citizens for the next four years. The Charter also serves as a baseline document for civil society to monitor local governance in these municipalities over the next four years.\nAfter elections, member organizations of the \u201cAlliance for Active Citizenship\u201d met with elected mayors to remind them of election promises and advocate for their fulfillment. Progress is regularly monitored by organizations and presented on the platform \u201czotimet.forumi.online,\u201d giving citizens opportunities to track fulfillment.\n\nAchievements:\n\u2022\tOrganized six meetings (three in each municipality, Istog and Pej\u00eb) focusing on citizen groups to gather their demands and needs.\n\u2022\tOrganized two public debates with mayoral candidates.\n\u2022\tDrafted the Charter of Promises with citizen demands and priorities and obtained signatures from mayoral candidates.\n\n<\/pre><\/div><\/div>
Democracy in Action - Monitoring of the 2021 National Elections<\/div>

\nProject Title: Democracy in Action - Monitoring of the 2021 National Elections\nDuration: 2 months (October - December 2021)\nLocation: Pej\u00eb Region (Pej\u00eb, Gjakov\u00eb, Malishev\u00eb, Rahovec, Klin\u00eb, Istog, De\u00e7an, and Junik)\nImplementing Organization(s): \"Syri i Vizionit\" as part of the \"Democracy in Action\" coalition\nBudget: 19,855.99 euros through SiV, the rest by DnV\nDonors: USAID and German Embassy\n\nProject Goal: \"Democracy in Action\" was established to monitor parliamentary and local elections held in November 2007, as well as to raise citizen awareness to participate in elections. Besides Syri i Vizionit, the \"Democracy in Action - Elections 2021\" coalition includes 10 Kosovo non-governmental organizations.\nBeneficiaries: The direct beneficiaries are the entire population of Kosovo. \nProject Name: Kosovo Integration Initiative 2020 (KOSINT 2020\nDuration: April 1, 2020 \u2013 December 31, 2021\nLocation: Kosovo\nImplementing Organization(s): SiV with partners VoRAE, BSFK, RADC\nDonor: Open Society Foundations (OSF)\nBudget: $150,025.0\n\nProject Objective: Empower the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities to raise their voices, actively work to meet their needs, maintain unity among themselves, and be treated equally across all sectors by local and central authorities, as well as by the entire population of Kosovo. Accessible and Quality Healthcare<\/div>

\nProject Title: AQH \u2013 Accessible and Quality Healthcare\nDuring 2021, Syri i Vizionit, within the framework of the AQH \u2013 Accessible and Quality Healthcare project, conducted a series of awareness sessions on hypertension, diabetes, and asthma. This project is supported by AQH and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and is implemented in collaboration with Swiss TPH.\n\nThe project was carried out in four municipalities of Kosovo: Peja, De\u00e7an, Istog, and Klina. The main objective of this project is to increase health awareness and promote healthier behaviors, particularly in communities that need quality healthcare. This includes rural populations, unemployed youth, and marginalized groups such as Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities.\n\nDuring this period, Syri i Vizionit organized 13 awareness sessions on hypertension, diabetes, and asthma, engaging a wide range of participants, divided by gender and different age groups. The sessions were held in various locations, such as private homes, conference rooms, schools, and municipal assembly halls, which were previously approved by the respective local authorities.\n\nThe activities were received with great interest by the participants. Specifically, 7 sessions were held in Peja, 2 in De\u00e7an, 2 in Klina, and 2 in Istog, with a total of 325 participants.\n\nThis project has significantly contributed to achieving its objectives by improving public knowledge on hypertension, asthma, and diabetes. This, in turn, has helped improve the health of the targeted communities.\n\n<\/pre><\/div><\/div>
Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Agriculture (Year Two)<\/div>

\nProject Title: Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Agriculture (Year Two)\nProject Duration: February 1 \u2013 December 31, 2021\nProject Implementation Location: Peja, Istog, Klina\nImplementing Organization: Syri i Vizionit\nBudget: \u20ac20,000\nDonor: Diakonie Austria \/ Waldensian Church\n\nProject Objective: Improve governance and female entrepreneurship by building capacities and empowering women and young women, enhancing their positions in businesses in the municipalities of Peja, Klina, and Istog. The project aims to increase women\u2019s entrepreneurship, strengthen self-initiative, and promote employment through the development of family agricultural businesses. It seeks to provide support to selected women and young female farmers in the Peja region to develop their economic activities.\n\nBeneficiaries: This project continues the capacity-building activities for women farmers initiated with funding from Otto per Mille in 2020 in the three municipalities of Peja, Klina, and Istog. In 2021, a total of 20 women and young women will be direct beneficiaries, including 15 women farmers who participated in 2020. At least five additional women farmers will be invited to apply for support during 2021. Direct counseling will be provided based on the products and services they currently offer or aim to offer in the future.\nIn 2020, several women participants in the Syri i Vizionit project initiated the establishment of the \u201cPeja Bees\u201d Women Beekeepers Association. In 2021, the project will support not only individual women but also strengthen this association by assisting its institutional and strategic development.\n\nProject Implementation:\n\u2022\tDuring the first three months, training sessions will be organized for the Beekeepers Association.\n\u2022\tIn the second quarter, training and practical advice will be provided to all 2020 beneficiaries.\n\u2022\tThroughout the year, Syri i Vizionit will meet with municipal representatives to better define criteria for empowering women in agriculture and discuss opportunities for co-financing or additional support to complement this project.\n\u2022\tInformative sessions for women farmers will then be organized.\nSpecific Objectives:\n1.\tProvide counseling\/practical training for new beekeepers in various areas of beekeeping, including bee rearing, honey production, and marketing.\n2.\tProvide counseling\/practical training for women who dry small plants (tea and kitchen herbs, wild herbs, medicinal plants) or cultivate vegetables (peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, etc.).\n3.\tSupport at least five additional (yet-to-be-selected) women farmers with training, goods, and\/or equipment to develop their products.\n4.\tInstitutionally strengthen the \u201cPeja Bees\u201d association.\n5.\tEmpower women to apply for grants offered by the Municipal Directorate of Agriculture or other potential donors.\nActivities and Expected Results:\n\u2022\t15 women farmers will gain practical knowledge related to their fields. Eleven will focus on beekeeping and honey production, three on drying and planting small plants, and one on dairy goat farming. They will also learn about entering local markets and networking.\n\u2022\tTwo one-day training workshops for groups of women in two areas: beekeeping and drying\/planting small plants.\n\u2022\tFour-day mentorship with field visits to provide practical guidance to previous-year beneficiaries.\n\u2022\tTraining and field visits to ensure practical advice for last year\u2019s beneficiaries.\n\u2022\tMentorship conducted by experts in relevant fields.\n\u2022\tThe \u201cPeja Bees\u201d Women Beekeepers Association will define its action strategy and learn about branding and promoting honey.\n\u2022\tTwo-day training on honey branding and promotion for association members.\n\u2022\tTwo-day workshop for developing the action strategy of the \u201cPeja Bees\u201d association.\n\u2022\tAll participating farmers will be informed and gain access to the \u201cCall for Grants based on Government Administrative Instruction No. 02\/2020 on Support Measures and Criteria in Agriculture and Rural Development.\u201d\n\u2022\tAssistance for individuals applying for grants.\nDirect Beneficiaries: In 2021, a total of 20 women and young women will be direct beneficiaries, including 15 women farmers who participated in 2020. In turn, municipalities activate their response mechanisms, ensuring a process of democratic cooperation. A single citizen is needed to identify problems, but a group behind that citizen is necessary to empower them. When the group is organized towards actions that benefit, community participation increases. When two or more of these core organizations exist and collaborate, networking and the decision-making process can be directed towards them and their interests.\nBeneficiaries: The main targeted groups of the project are local councils, neighborhood citizens in municipalities where the project operates, women\u2019s groups, civil society organizations, informal groups, municipalities, and citizens aiming to be active for the community\u2019s well-being where they live. Additionally, local government including mayors, public service directors, municipal council members, central government authorities, the Ministry of Local Government Administration, which plans to continue cooperation for the organization and structuring of local councils, is also a stakeholder in the project.\n\nProject Implementation: Organizations will work directly with citizens, formal and informal groups, NGOs, women and youth groups, and other marginalized groups. They will also work together with local institutions to develop practical and functional mechanisms enabling citizen participation in decision-making and jointly advocate at local and central levels to initiate, review, and implement policies that will have a nationwide impact.\nThe alliance will work to empower women in decision-making. To achieve this, each organization will continue working with women\u2019s groups, municipal councillors, women in politics to jointly improve women\u2019s position and motivate other women to become active. \nProject Title: Our Obligation 4 the Future - Child Protection and Governance with Children's Rights\nDuration: 12 months (January - December 2021)\nLocation: Pej\u00eb, Gjakov\u00eb, Klin\u00eb, Gjilan, Prizren, Prishtin\u00eb, Ferizaj, and Mitrovic\u00eb\nImplementing Organization(s): Syri i Vizionit\nBudget: 119,548.48 euros\nDonors: Save the Children Kosovo and SIDA\n\nProject Goal: Within this program, Syri i Vizionit will work on two thematic areas in child protection and governance with children's rights. In child protection, it will influence the creation of a legal infrastructure that protects children and prohibits violence and corporal punishment toward children in any environment. It will also enhance the professional capacity of institutions mandated to protect children to provide fast and professional services. In the governance of children's rights, the program will work with children from monitoring groups RoR and Children\u2019s Assemblies to empower their role in policy-making and participation in decision-making at local and national levels.\nBeneficiaries: All children in Kosovo regardless of ethnic, religious, racial, gender differences or disabilities. Institutions at local and national levels mandated to protect children and govern children\u2019s rights, Children\u2019s Assemblies, schools, parents, teachers, and CSOs working with children.\n\nProject Implementation: Syri i Vizionit will work in two areas - child protection and governance of children\u2019s rights. In child protection, it will work in five municipalities (in 10 schools in Pej\u00eb, Gjakov\u00eb, Prizren, Klin\u00eb, and Gjilan) to develop the legal infrastructure protecting children and prohibiting violence against children. The project will collaborate closely with local and national institutions to promote the Law on Child Protection and assist institutions in drafting administrative guidelines, especially for prohibiting corporal punishment.\nSyri i Vizionit will also organize simultaneous trainings on positive discipline in everyday parenting with parents as an alternative to raising and educating children without violence or corporal punishment. The program will support capacity building of mechanisms\/institutions mandated to protect children to provide professional services, strengthening social dialogue between schools, Social Work Centers (QPS), and child and family protection against abuse.\nIn governance of children\u2019s rights, the project will work with child-led groups such as the national monitoring group for the Convention on the Rights of the Child implementation \"Respect Our Rights\" (RoR), municipal Children\u2019s Assemblies (AKF), and coordinators for children\u2019s rights in seven municipalities \u2013 Pej\u00eb, Gjilan, Ferizaj, Gjakov\u00eb, Klin\u00eb, Prishtin\u00eb, and Mitrovic\u00eb. The project will increase transparency of institutions by involving children in meetings and direct workshops with institutions. Syri i Vizionit will also address findings from the Young Voices report through the RoR and AKF groups. Special attention will be given this year and upcoming years to educating children on environmental issues and climate change, including awareness-raising and advocacy campaigns led by children to promote practical policies for environmental protection and climate change.\n\nObjectives and Results:\n\u2022\tLocal institutions are functional in identifying violence cases and capacity building on positive discipline is provided to teachers and parents to enhance child protection inside and outside schools.\n\u2022\tChild-friendly tools for reporting violence in schools are recognized and used as reliable and functional mechanisms to protect children from violence.\n\u2022\tAbout 400 parents trained on positive discipline approaches in everyday parenting (PDEP).\n\u2022\tSocial Work Center officials have built capacities in identifying and managing violence cases and provide better-quality services to children.\n\u2022\tSocial dialogue has started between schools, parents, Social Work
