Institutions and civil society in Kosovo, Serbia, Albania and Macedonia share practices and models for involving citizens in decision-making!

October 31, 2018, Pejë – With the initiative of the partner organizations of the region and the invitation of the municipality of Pejë and with direct support from the Olof Palme International Center, the institutions of the municipality of Vlora and Pozega, as well as civil society organizations in the countries of the Albania region, Serbia and Macedonia have stayed for two days in the municipality of Peja, where the institutions and the Eye of Vision were the hosts. The purpose of this visit was for the municipalities in question and the partners to see closely the process of local council elections in the urban and rural areas of the municipality of Peja.

The representatives from Albania, Serbia and Macedonia also held a meeting with the mayor of the municipality of Peja, where they had the opportunity to share experiences and good practices of governance with citizen participation, from the three countries. The groups also met with the chairman of the assembly of Peja, where they also discussed civic involvement and budgeting with participation.

Meanwhile, the group, together with the chairman of the assembly and the mayor of the municipality with representatives of SiV, participated in the election process in one of the local communities where the elections were to be held. The group had the opportunity to see directly the election process, the work of the commission which is created through the municipal assembly, consisting of six (06) members, where one was from the Executive (Director of Administration) and 4 others are from the legislature, advisors of the Municipal Assembly, and one member from Civil Society (Eye of Vision). The guest group had the opportunity to see the process as a whole, the voting, counting up to the announcement of the chairman and members of the council.

This activity was carried out within the program “Strengthening the role of civil society to initiate the involvement of citizens in decision-making processes”, supported by Olof Palme International Center and supported by SIDA.
