Pejë, March 31- The municipal assemblies in Istog and Deçan changed three municipal regulations in their meetings today, adding to them elements of gender equality, according to the demands presented by the women assembly members. Now these regulations will provide more opportunities for women in representation, inclusion and benefiting from the municipality. The approved changes guarantee wider participation of women, including 50 percent representation in commissions, more favorable conditions for women’s participation in local councils. Regulation for the work of the commission for the naming and renaming of squares, streets, alleys and other public places and the Municipal Regulation for the organization and cooperation of the municipality with villages, settlements and urban neighborhoods in the territory of the municipality of Deçan, as well as the Regulation for consultation and participation of the public in decision-making, have passed to the municipal assemblies of these two municipalities, while the municipal councilors of all parties have unanimously supported these changes which have been addressed to the municipal assemblies by groups of assembly women and offices for gender equality.
All this has been achieved thanks to the Women’s Support Project, which Syri i Vizioni has been implementing since last year with financial support from USIAD/ATRC. In addition to these three regulations, the regulation for subsidies and scholarships in the municipality of Peja was previously completed and two more regulations are in process in the municipal assemblies of Junik and Istog.
