Pejë, 08 May – The non-governmental organization “Syri i Vizioni” held a working meeting with local institutions for children’s rights and for the safety of children in primary and lower secondary schools. In this working meeting, the carrying of cold weapons and firearms in schools by children (students) was discussed, as well as the prevention of the presence of children (students) or unauthorized persons in school yards and inside the building.
These concerns have emerged from a research that was done by the children themselves (students) of primary and lower secondary schools Ramiz Sadiku and Xhemail Kada and their peers. The research of the children was done within the project “Together 4 children rights – Child Protection”, that the organization Syri i Vizioni in partnership with the organization Save the Children are implementing in five municipalities of Kosovo, namely in ten primary and lower secondary schools .
Those present at this meeting have pledged to increase the coordination of joint action and have thanked the organization Syri i Vizioni and Save the Children for providing assistance in drafting a joint action plan. According to them, it is the last and very urgent moment that institutions must act to do much more to increase the safety of children inside and outside school buildings.
The draft plan of this meeting will be sent to all institutions responsible for children’s rights, including the Directorate of Education and Health, the Center for Social Work, the Probation Service, the Kosovo Police, the Center for Family Medicine, the rights coordinator of children, the Court and the Prosecutor’s Office, the Municipal Council for Community Safety, civil society and the media, since this action plan considers it necessary to include all these actors in increasing the safety of children in the municipality of Peja.
