Prishtina, September 29- The children of the “Naim Frashëri” primary and lower secondary school in Prishtina have been informed about the work and activity of the Ombudsman Institution “Ombudsperson” about what this institution did in the protection of children’s rights and the help that can offer this to the institutions in case their rights are violated.
Igballe Rrahmani, from the People’s Advocate Institution, has informed the children that within this institution for several years now there is a Unit for Children’s Rights, which protects, promotes, observes and conducts investigations related to violations of children’s rights by public institutions. Ms. Rrahmani said that “This unit has enabled the IAP to focus more on the protection of children’s rights according to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child as well as the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms Basic.
She has motivated the children that if their rights are violated by anyone at school, family, etc., to turn to this institution and that this institution will come to their aid at any time so that the children are not victims of violence or other events.
The children have shared different cases where they believe their rights have been violated and have asked for clarification from the representative of the People’s Advocate on what should have been done or how to act in such cases.
The Ombusperson’s visit to the Naim Frashëri school was carried out within the framework of the “Together 4 children rights – Child Protection” program, in partnership with the organization Save the Children
This project is being implemented in ten primary and lower secondary schools in five municipalities of Kosovo: in Pristina, Pejë, Gjakovë, Ferizaj and Mitrovica. The beneficiaries of this project are the students, their parents and the teachers of these schools as well as the institutions responsible for the protection and respect of children’s rights.
