“Control of small arms and light weapons in Kosovo – Progress and challenges”

Pejë, 21.03.2012 – The report “Control of small and light weapons in Kosovo – Progress and challenges” was published at the table organized by Syri i Vizioni in cooperation with SaferWorld and the Security Forum.
The “Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons” report analyzes and evaluates the progress made in the drafting of the legal framework that regulates the control of SALW, focusing on the laws, strategies and policies compiled, the establishment of institutional capacities and mechanisms for to ensure effective control of AVL, the implementation of laws and strategies, as well as the policy of punishments for cases of illegal holding of AVL.
The participants in this roundtable have welcomed the published report, and have assessed that this report reflects the current situation in terms of keeping small and light weapons under control, but it also requires a commitment from all institutions to implement the law on weapons and acts other legal ones such as the national strategy drawn up by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The commander of the police station in Peja, the representative of the municipal court, the deputy mayor of the municipality of Peja who is also the chairman of the municipal council for community security, the action teams for community security, OSCE, civil society and the media participated in this roundtable.
In addition to the recommendations contained in the report, several other recommendations for the Government, the police and the courts have emerged from this table
