September 30, 2011- Officials from the Police, the Prosecution Court, the Municipality and Customs, together with representatives of civil society and the media discussed the problems of economic crimes in the region of Peja, the coordination of institutions in this sector and the problems faced by these bodies.
Representatives of these institutions have said that economic crimes and fiscal crimes in general are the most widespread crimes in Kosovo, but the fight against which is done the least and this happens for several reasons, among which the lack of specialization of the staff in this sector, non-reporting of cases, links of structures that commit these crimes, etc.
In the framework of the debate “Economic crimes – the fight against them”, the presentation of the research by the NGO Syri i Vizioni, carried out previously with various institutions in the Municipality of Peja that are responsible for fighting and preventing economic crimes, was also made.
The debate was organized by the non-governmental organization “Syri i Vizioni” in Peja and is held within the framework of the project “Increasing public supervision in the rule of law in Kosovo”, which is being implemented since December of last year in several municipalities of Kosovo in cooperation with Forum for Civic Initiatives (FIQ) from Pristina.
This is the third debate that is being held, as research and then debates on the problems of the war against narcotics and the sector of illegal constructions were conducted before.
