Media release: Election simulation in Peja
Peja, September 11, 2013

On Wednesday, September 11, 2013, starting at 11:00 a.m., in the facilities of the “Bedri Pejani” High School Gymnasium, the Non-Governmental Organization Syri i Vizioni within the NGO coalition Democracy in Action, has developed the activity of simulating the process election with the graduating students of this school.
The activity was developed in cooperation with the MEC and aimed at raising the awareness of young voters and all voters of the municipality of Peja to participate in the local elections that will be held on November 3. Through this activity, young voters, who are voting for the first time this year, are motivated and see how the voting procedures work in an improvised polling station with all the necessary tools for voting. “Voters” voted on improvised ballots with the names of football players and teams instead of candidates and party lists.
In this simulated voting process, the representatives of all classes with high school graduates participated. From the experience of such a simulation, it has been seen that young people, for the most part, are interested in the electoral process, but they have very little information about the procedures and the actual process of voting in a polling station. The main problems that have come to the fore are those related to voting for the subject and for the candidate within the subject, and there is a lack of information regarding finding the polling station. Young people have also expressed interest in their engagement as commissioners or as observers of the election process.
Such a simulation is held for the first time in the municipality of Peja, while another such activity will be held this week also in the municipality of Klina.
