Peja prohibits harassment and sexual abuse of students in schools even with regulations

Pejë – The Municipal Directorate of Education last year initiated the addition-amendment of the municipal regulation “Rights, duties, disciplinary and material responsibility, absence from work of employees in educational and training institutions in the Municipality of Pejë” to stop harassment and sexual abuse against students in all pre-university educational institutions with this regulation.

After this amendment and approval in the Municipal Assembly, the Directorate of Education in cooperation with the non-governmental organization Syri i Vizioni, which was also part of the working group to promote and increase responsibility in the implementation of this regulation, have printed and distributed several copies in a joint meeting with the directors of pre-university educational institutions. With this, they have created opportunities and facilities for school principals and all employees of these institutions in their daily work to identify, prevent and timely report cases of harassment and sexual abuse to the responsible institutions.

The Mayor of the Municipality, Gazmend Muhaxheri, the Deputy Mayor Fatmir Asllani, the Chairman of the Assembly, Islam Husaj, the Director of Education Besim Avdimetaj were also present at this meeting. That everyone promised and pledged for the strict supervision of the implementation of this regulation by the educational institutions in the municipality of Peja, with special emphasis on the prevention of sexual harassment and abuse, as a phenomenon that has happened, for which we also supplement – the change of this regulation is deemed necessary.

They have also thanked the Eye of Vision organization for their commitment and contribution to this regulation, not only in its printing but also in the working group.

This activity was carried out within the framework of the thematic program in the field of child protection and governance with children’s rights “Our Obligation to the Future – Protection of Children and Governance of Children’s Rights” which is implemented by the Eye of Vision organization, in partnership with Save the Children, office in Kosovo.
