Notice of opinion

Through this announcement, the NGO Syri i Vizioni (SiV) wants to sensitize the public opinion, in particular the local and central institutions, regarding the serious housing situation of seven families who have found shelter in the former prison building in the Gurrakoc locality of the municipality of Istog.

Since the post-war period of 1999, five families from the Egyptian community and two Albanian families, in the absence of their own homes due to the severe economic and social conditions in which they find themselves, have tried to secure housing in the former prison building located in Gurrakoc locality of Istog municipality. Throughout this 20-year period, these families have lived in this building, which as early as 1999 was in a miserable condition and unsuitable for providing comfortable housing.

Despite the continuous and unrelenting efforts of these seven families, but also of non-governmental organizations, various subjects as well as citizen initiatives, directed to the competent institutions and especially to the municipal institutions of Istog, with the aim of rebuilding houses or at least providing housing temporary that meets the necessary conditions for a dignified residence for these families, the living conditions of these families in the abandoned former prison building in Gurrakoc are below any level of human and social dignity!

Bearing in mind the severe situation described above in which these families live, which is clearly evidenced by the photos taken in the premises they remember, the NGO Syri i Vizioni calls on the competent institutions of the municipality of Istog, those of social services as well as the relevant ministries that have the mandate to help and ensure social welfare for citizens in need, to urgently undertake concrete actions, first of all for the relocation and temporary accommodation in suitable living conditions of these families, and then ensuring permanent housing, namely the construction of houses for these families in severe economic and social conditions.

The NGO Syri i Vizioni will continue to closely monitor the situation of these seven families, as well as the steps that we expect the competent institutions will take to change the situation in which the families in question live.
