The fastest approval of the Law on the Protection of Children’s Rights is requested

Organized by Syri i Vizioni in partnership with Save the Children, Office in Kosovo, in collaboration with the Commission for Human Rights, Gender Equality, Missing Persons and Petitions, citizens, children, members of civil society and MPs have marched from the Assembly of Kosovo to “Zahir Pajaziti” Square, demanding the fastest approval of the Law on the Protection of Children’s Rights.

On this occasion, MP Duda Balje, at the same time the Chairperson of the Commission for Human Rights, said that they have done a good job with the Law on the Protection of Children’s Rights, while stating that within a few days it will be put to a second vote this bill.

“We have finished the work. We have made a very good law. We have divided the law into several very important parts for the children of Kosovo. Now we are just waiting for the second vote in the parliament. I am sure that within a few days we will complete this work. We have another obligation, by presenting the law to you, that you know what your rights are. Today, we are here to talk about slippers. We know that we can talk a lot about the slipper, I am almost sure that we are using the slipper only for good works”, said Balje.

Deputy Mejhide Mjaku-Topalli said that this campaign is a bell that is ringing for everyone, to say no to violence and abuse.

Mjaku-Topalli said that children constitute the present and the future of the country. Therefore, she added, each of them should enjoy the right to grow up in a safe and calm environment such as in school, family or community.

“Our concern as institutions is that our children are facing difficult situations, dangers, violence, threats and murder. The last case in Gjilan that shocked the whole opinion is an alarm for all of us and we must call to our conscience that preventive measures for the safety of children must be taken urgently. Together, we can and must create safe environments, secure the streets, covering the settlements with cameras, install lighting so that children are provided with more protection on the streets and in the places where they operate”, she said. .

The director of Save the Children, Ahmet Kryeziu, said that as an organization they are proud to have had the opportunity to work on the awareness of society regarding domestic violence, in all areas where children operate.

“I invite from here, all representatives of the people, all representatives of civil society, parents, and others, to engage together, so that first with the approval of the Law on Children’s Rights, we start to think differently”, he said.

Naser Lajqi from Syri i Vizioni said that adults have a responsibility and obligation to offer them love and everything that children deserve.

He wished that the Law would be approved in July of this year.

And Fleta Mujaj spoke on behalf of the children, who said that the absence of any other form of punishment only increases the consequences that the children have throughout their lives.
