Pristina, June 1, 2018 – With the motto “Every day is June 1”, Syri i Vizioni in partnership with Save the Child and in cooperation with the Office for Good Governance/Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, the children of the monitoring group ROR (RespectOurRights ) and the children’s municipal assemblies have held a daily workshop with children from all the municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo to review the draft Strategy and National Action Plan for Children’s Rights.
The activity developed as a conclusion of the whole week’s commitments in the framework of the International Children’s Day, was aimed at increasing the participation of children in the development processes of society, and offering the opportunity to be represented and to have their voices heard. of children from state institutions. This activity, at the same time, is also an important step towards better implementation and fulfillment of obligations arising from local legislation and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, specifically the protection and respect of children’s rights in the Republic of Kosovo, for which the Eye of Vision and Save the Children have been working for several years now.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Ramush Haradinaj, who appreciated the work that the civil society organizations in Kosovo are doing in improving the position of rights, in his speech promised not only to support the children, but also for the joint commitment with them.
“The best ideas and initiatives come from you children, and today I have brought my entire cabinet in front of you, not only to be introduced to them, but to promise that every day we will not only work for you, but we will work together with you, and we need your help, to do the best for you and all the children of Kosovo” said Prime Minister Haradinaj.
On the other hand, the representatives of the organizations Syri i Vizioni, Save the Children and UNICEF, have pledged that every day they will be close to the children so that their needs and rights are addressed in the institutions, making the children part of decision-making not only at the level nationally but also at the local level.
The children present in this workshop requested that the strategy be drawn up in accordance with their needs and guaranteeing the improvement of their conditions in education, health, respect of rights in each sector by making children part of decision-making at every level and institution .
“How much the organizations that work with us and for our rights, but also you as prime minister and government, give us heart with today’s speech and the strategy that is being made, but all of us. Together we can give a lot of heart to the other children of Kosovo, who are not at this meeting today” said Yll Kosumi, one of the children participating in this workshop.
The activities of the week marking June 1st, “Every day is June 1st”, have started since Monday, May 28, carrying out various activities in the municipalities of Mitrovica, Gjilan, Prizren, Ferizaj, Gjakovë and Pejë with governmental and non-governmental institutions, meeting and developing activities with children with special needs and the children of the SOS village in Pristina.
