The conference “What the state has done or should do in the protection of children in Kosovo” was held.
Pristina, November 18, 2015- The organization “Syri i Vizioni” in partnership with “Save the Children”, today (Wednesday) organized a conference on the occasion of marking the day of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, in which they discussed the recommendations of the “Our Reality” report, and in which the institutions have presented their achievements in improving and protecting children’s rights.
Invited to the conference, representatives of local and international institutions in Kosovo, of local government in several municipalities, officials of education, social centers, police, human rights coordinators, parents and students, as well as from civil society and the media, have discussed the findings published in its report by the ROR group, a monitoring group called “Respectoni e Drejat Tona” – Respect our Rights (ROR), consisting of 24 children from all the municipalities of Kosovo, who in a period of one year have monitor the level of implementation of the Convention in Kosovo.
They said that better cooperation and coordination at the local and central level is needed to improve the implementation of children’s rights in Kosovo.
Azem Guri, adviser to the Minister of Education, Arsim Bajrami, said that the Ministry is reviewing the recommendations of the ROR group and they will be incorporated into its five-year strategy 2016-2020, including recommendations for providing transportation for children in schools. preventing school raids, etc.
On behalf of the Kosovo Police, Sali Dragidella said that they are working to increase security in schools and around them to stop negative events, while Igballe Rrahmani from the Ombudsperson institution said that part of the ROR Group’s recommendations will be included in the final report that the Ombudsman will address to the Parliament.
The participants requested the inclusion of even more children in participation in schools. According to the organizer of the conference, Teuta Uka from the Eye of Vision organization, the ROR group with the monitoring of the implementation of the convention and the reporting based on the one-year research has managed to raise awareness about the improvement of the situation in this sector, involving all actors to work together in improving the situation.
