The closing conference of the “Active Citizen” project with the heads of local communities

December 28, 2012- The Non-Governmental Organization Syri i Vizioni held the last conference to conclude the first year of the “Active Citizen” project that was implemented in the municipalities of the Dukagjin Plain, which aimed to activate and empower citizens in addressing issues their towards the institutions. Gathered in this conference, the heads of these local communities have thanked the organization “Syri i Vizioni” for the opportunities offered to empower them in addressing the problems of the institutions. At the same time, they have pledged that they will be much more powerful in addressing and solving the problems they face every day in the areas where they live.

The “Syri iVizionit” organization has helped the residents of the local communities of Rugova (Pejë), Vrella (Istog), Grabanicë (Klinë), Isniq (Deçan) and Xerxë (Rahovec) to reorganize into local councils and elect their non-political leaders. so that they represent all the residents of those areas without political, national and religious differences, to address their problems in the respective institutions. In addition to their organization as local councils, they have also been offered various trainings such as: Advocacy, Writing project proposals and Raising funds, as well as from time to time they have been helped by the auxiliary office within the organization “Syri i Vizioni” which address numerous requests to local institutions.

In addition to strengthening the local councils in the local communities of the Dukagjin Plain, “Syri i Vizioni” has also helped to strengthen the civil society organizations of this region, offering them professional training in various fields and timely advice through the auxiliary office.

The “Active Citizenship” project implemented by Syri i Vizioni has been financially supported by the Olof Palme International Center from Sweden, and because the first year of implementation has been completed, the project will continue for 2013, where in addition to the continuity in strengthening and supporting the councils local and civil society special importance will be given to the legislation that regulates the cooperation of the municipality with local councils in villages and urban areas, as provided for in the law on local self-government, administrative guidance and the drafting of municipal regulations related to this matter.
