Think Globally,
Act Locally

Deçan, February 13 – A meeting was held with representatives of the villages of the Municipality of Deçan, with whom the ownership issues in this municipality, the problems encountered by the residents in the localities and the possibilities of addressing them through the institutions of Kosovo were discussed. The representatives of the Court in Deçan, the municipal officials from the Municipal Assembly, Cadastre, administration and other municipal services, have explained to the representatives of the villages the existing procedures and laws with which property issues are addressed, both in the case of disputes and in non-contentious procedures. The citizens themselves have brought the problems of the areas where they live, focusing mainly on the issues of inheritance and its transfer, private and public properties, privatization, usurpation, the gender aspect of ownership, legalization and other problems related to the topic of ownership.
The participants have recommended to the courts that issues of disputes and ownership should be given priority, as it takes a long time to consider them, they have asked the Municipality to look at the municipal properties in cases where there may be data on the transformation of public property, such as and have requested information related to cases related to privatization.
Justice and municipal services officials have recommended them to transfer ownership in their own names, where possible, and to turn to the courts in cases where there is any dispute.
The meeting was held within the project “Protect your property” that is being implemented by Eye of Vision in the region of Peja with funding from USAID/ATRC.
