Meetings with parents for career guidance in the Municipality of Gjakova

Gjakovë, April 12- The implementation of the action plan for the school-parent communication strategy for counseling and career guidance for ninth grade students has started in the “Zekrija Rexha” lower secondary school in Gjakovë. In the first meeting held with parents who have students in grades IX in this school, representatives of the Ministry of Education – MEST and from the supporting organizations Helvetas, Syri i Vizonit and Smart Bits/Lux Development participated. In the conversation with the parents, they have heard their concerns regarding the choice of career and education opportunities, the difficulties in making the decision for secondary education. During the meeting, information was distributed on all the high schools of Gjakova, the role and importance of parents’ engagement, as well as on the Busulla portal, which is at the service of students and parents regarding education opportunities and professions.
Seven schools have been selected for piloting in the first year, one each in the regions of Kosovo. The strategy aims to engage parents and empower them so that they can be supportive of their children in schooling decisions after ninth grade.
