04 August 2022, Pristina – The non-governmental organization Syri i Vizioni from Peja, in partnership with the organization Save the Children – office in Kosovo, in cooperation with the Office for Good Governance (ZQM) as well as the children’s groups Respect Our Rights (ROR) and Assemblies Municipal Children’s Association (AKF) organized the awareness campaign “I have a Law that protects me”, thus asking government institutions to immediately start implementing the Law on Child Protection, which entered into force on July 17, 2020.

Naser Lajqi, responsible for the field of child protection in the organization Syri i Vizioni, said: “The campaign aims to promote the Law on Child Protection – two years after its entry into force – and the prohibition of corporal punishment, making all citizens aware and aware for the prevention of violence and corporal punishment against children and government institutions to undertake concrete actions for the implementation of this Law, so that children feel the protection and security and rights guaranteed by the state”.

Kendrese Ibra-Zariqi from the Office for Good Governance has thanked the organizations that are helping with the implementation of the national campaign “Love for every child”. She promised that the Government will soon approve the by-laws that originate from this law. “I believe that by-laws will soon be approved which will help all the responsible actors in the implementation of the law and the creation of appropriate mechanisms”, she underlined.

While the representatives of the children’s groups ROR and AKF asked the government to do more for the implementation of the Law by creating security and an environment that guarantees the enjoyment of their rights. “The government must create security for us not only in schools but everywhere and create conditions for us as children to enjoy our rights guaranteed by this law as well as the international convention on our rights”, said Erisa Dervishaj. representative of children from the ROR group.

 

The “I have a Law that protects me” campaign aims to increase the institutional responsibility and awareness of parents and legal guardians about the consequences of corporal punishment and the exercise of violence, as a very pronounced phenomenon in school and family, but also in other environments.

This campaign was carried out within the framework of the RriteMeDashni campaign and the #DashnipërcdoFêmija national campaign within the program in the field of child protection and governance with children’s rights “Our Obligation for the Future – Protection of Children and Governance of Children’s Rights” of which is implemented by the Eye of Vision organization in partnership with Save the Children, office in Kosovo, and financed by the Swedish International Development Agency.
