The Municipal Assembly of Children in Peja demands better conditions in schools

Pejë, November 20 – The Municipal Assembly of Children in Peja has started the day with more activities within the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Initially, an awareness-raising video was launched where children address their needs in health, education, sports, environment and inclusion in decision-making, and then they held a public debate with the director of education, Mr. Naser Gega.

The children’s Assembly members have addressed many requests related to improving conditions in schools, including cabinets and equipment with proper inventory, lack of sports fields, inadequate hygiene in schools, traffic risks from parents who bring children in cars and stray dogs. All these concerns and requests of children, the head of education in the municipality of Peja, Mr. Naser Gega, pledged that some of these requests and concerns have been included in development policies and some others will be addressed immediately. He also asked the children to help schools in maintaining the environment and hygiene in schools and to help raise awareness among parents so that they do not create queues and risk their lives near schools by bringing their children to school.

On the other hand, the child rights officer, Ms. Drita Krasniqi, pledged that she will be by the side of the children’s voice and together with them will address any concerns in a timely manner and find solutions so that they enjoy their rights as guaranteed by local and international legislation.

There was also support and commitment from the gender equality officer, Ms. Samka Drançolli, who also asked the children to be part of activities whenever their interests are affected, but at the same time, together with the children’s voice, that the MED should remind schools of their obligations and responsibilities to eliminate the concerns that children have.

The activities concluded with the assembly children together with municipal officials and representatives of the organizations Syri i Vizionit and Save the Children Kosova/o as supporters of the AKFs placing several messages on the clock, with the aim of raising awareness on the demands, needs and rights of children.

This activity was carried out within the framework of the thematic program for the protection and rights of the child “Our Duty for the Future – Child Protection and Child Rights Governance” for the Strengthening of Civil Society by the Syri i Vizionit Organizations in partnership with Save the Children Kosova/o, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency – Sida.
