Young people talk about the role of women in building and maintaining peace

April 17- The Non-Governmental Organization “Syri i Vizioni” held a table with the young people of the city of Peja where they discussed the inclusion of women in the existing mechanisms for building peace.
Young people have expressed that society should do more for the position of women to be better in decision-making. They have said that more awareness campaigns should be done so that women are treated equally in society and have the support of the family and the Kosovar society itself. But on the other hand, they have requested that women should also be more persistent and have a stronger self-confidence to be ready to contribute to institutions, businesses, politics, etc.

Present at this table were youth assemblymen in the municipal assembly of Peja, students of the public university “Haxhi Zeka” and Dukagjini European College, young people from various governmental and non-governmental institutions, youth centers and non-governmental organizations.

The table “Women’s readiness and their involvement in the existing mechanisms on peace building” was held in the framework of the program “Raising the position of women in peace-making and peace-keeping processes” which aims to increase women’s participation during peace building and post-conflict planning processes.

This project is being implemented in several municipalities of Kosovo and is a joint project of international organizations UN Women, EU and UNDP in partnership with local non-governmental organizations.
