Pristina, October 7- The Kosovo Institute for Policy Research and Development (KIPRED) and Syri i Vizioni (SiV), organized a round table on the topic: “Impunity in Kosovo: The Fight Against High Profile Corruption” to present the findings from the research conducted in the period June-September and to discuss them.
The table was attended by representatives from the key institutions of the rule of law in Kosovo from the central and local level such as: the Office of the European Union in Kosovo, the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor, the Office of the Disciplinary Prosecutor, the Basic Court (Gjakovë), the Basic Court (Pejë) , and representatives of civil society.
The table was opened by the project official from the NGO “Syri i Vizionit” in Pejë, Vlora Gaxherri, who presented to the participants the general data about the project, and about the results realized in the three previous researches. Then, after the initial findings of the KIPRED and SiV project were presented, it continued with the discussions of the actors present at the table.
Ms. Ariana Qosaj-Mustafa, manager of this project and at the same time a senior researcher at KIPRED, presented the methodology of the research work, the findings so far and the recommendations in the field of corruption, with a high profile focus. “The legal framework against corruption needs to be completed further, in order to increase the efficiency in the fight against corruption, especially high-profile corruption. Statistical data prove that the resolution of high-profile corruption cases is still low, due to several factors, including the lack of initiative by prosecutors and the quality of indictments. Also, in the absence of political will, the infrastructure and capacities of the rule of law institutions continue to be insufficient” – said Ms. Ariana Qosaj-Mustafa.
Participants at the round table discussed the findings of KIPRED and SiV and expressed their opinions regarding the most efficient solutions around the issue of high-profile corruption. The discussions were focused on the fulfillment of EU requirements by Kosovo institutions, in order to facilitate Kosovo’s journey towards the EU and to overcome the above-mentioned problems.
This was the fourth table organized within the project \”Fulfillment of the requirements of the EU for good governance, for the further European integration of Kosovo\”, a project which was financed by the Office of the European Union in Kosovo.
