Peja has started the elections for mayors and members of local councils

May 18- The municipality of Peja has started the election of local council chairmen as well as the election of members of these councils in rural (village) and urban (city) areas as a legitimate mechanism of representation and involvement of citizens in decision-making.
So far, the elections have been held in six local councils where over 1,800 citizens participated and voted for their representatives who will represent them and their interests in local institutions. In this process, the inclusion of women, both in voting and running for president of the local council, is very good, and so far seven women have been elected as members of the local council.

The process of elections of local council presidents is organized by the independent commission established by the mayor of Peja municipality, consisting of seven members from four political entities (AAK, LDK, PDK. and VV). In addition to the representatives from political entities, there are also two representatives from civil society, one from the NGO Syri i Vizioni and one from the Swiss organization HELVETAS, which is also a supporter of the program for the election of local council presidents and council members. Part of the committee who is also the chairperson of this committee is the director of administration as a representative of the executive from the municipality of Peja, so far the process of elections for chairpersons of local councils is going very well and is expected to end in the third week of June. .
