Peja, May 31 – The conference “Awareness of workers about their rights and registration in trade unions” was held, which had the purpose of presenting the report resulting from the research that was carried out in the municipality of Peja, with workers employed in private enterprises. as well as in the public sector.
In this conference, in addition to the presentation of the report that emerged from the research, it was discussed with the responsible institutions, trade unions, civil society organizations, heads of councils and citizens about the steps that should be taken in implementing the labor law and respecting the rights of workers in their workplaces and the importance of union registration.
During the conference, some of the most important points that emerged from the research were discussed, such as: knowledge of labor law, contracts, hours, workplace safety, annual leave, unequal treatment, government support, health insurance and registration in unions.
The participants in the conference agreed that they are not doing enough to protect workers’ rights, and also workers do not initiate cases of violation of their rights, because they do not believe much in the government nor in the support of trade unions. It is also seen as very necessary to raise the awareness of citizens and workers in both sectors about the Labor Law and the rights guaranteed by this law, as well as the importance of the role and function of trade unions.
The conference was organized within the project “Active Citizenship”, which aims to develop active citizenship in Kosovo, which has been implemented for several years in the region of Peja and Prizren by the NGO “Syri i Vizioni” supported by the organization Olof Palm International Center.
