A round table is held for the inclusion of women in peace building mechanisms

Peja March 13 – The Non-Governmental Organization “Syri i Vizioni” has gathered at a joint table women leaders from different sectors of life in the city of Peja, to analyze the situation of women and their readiness to join the existing mechanisms that operate in the municipality of Peja.
At this table, it was said that as far as the legislative side is concerned, there are laws, guidelines and strategies that guarantee women’s participation in decision-making and protect their rights, but still all these legal mechanisms have remained only on paper and very little is are implemented, which is influencing women not to have a strong role in decision-making.
It has also been assessed that in the municipality of Peja, there is a significant improvement in terms of women’s participation in decision-making, however, more needs to be done so that women are given the positions they deserve in society and are treated equally with men.
At the end of the table, numerous recommendations have emerged which will be addressed to the municipal institutions, so that the municipalities make women an important factor in the design of development strategies, in the field of economy, health, education, etc.

The table “Readiness of women in their involvement in the existing mechanisms on peace building” is part of the program that is being realized in several municipalities of Kosovo by the international organizations UN Women, EU and UNDP in partnership with local non-governmental organizations. The project aims to increase women’s participation during the processes of peace building and post-conflict planning.
