Think Globally,
Act Locally

Prishtina, October 3- The children of the “Ismail Qemali” primary and lower secondary school in Prishtina have expressed their willingness to cooperate and seek help from the Ombudsman’s Institution when their rights are violated at school or in the family. This is what they expressed during the visit that officials from the Ombudsman Institution (IAP) made to the Ismail Qemali school, to inform them about the work and activities of this institution in the protection of children’s rights and the help they can provide. offer it to them in case their rights are violated.

The official of this institution, Mrs. Igballe Rrahmani informed the children that there is a Children’s Rights Unit, which protects, promotes, observes and conducts investigations related to violations of children’s rights by public institutions. She further said that this unit has enabled the IAP to focus more on the protection of children’s rights according to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child as well as the European Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

She has motivated the children that if their rights are violated by anyone at school, family, etc., to turn to this institution and that this institution will come to their aid at any time so that the children are not victims of violence or other events.
The children have shared different cases, where they believe that their rights have been violated and have asked for clarifications from the representative of the People’s Advocate on what should have been done or how to act in such cases.
The Ombusperson’s visit to the “Ismail Qemali” school was carried out in the framework of the “Together 4 children rights – Child Protection” program, in partnership with the organization Save the Children.
This project is being implemented in ten primary and lower secondary schools in five municipalities of Kosovo: in Pristina, Pejë, Gjakovë, Ferizaj and Mitrovica. The beneficiaries of this project are the students, their parents and the teachers of these schools as well as the institutions responsible for the protection and respect of children’s rights.
