The Drin Day project has started to be implemented
From the end of last year, a project related to the name of the river Drin and dedicated to the area and the people living in the areas along this river and its tributaries has started to be implemented in Kosovo and the region. The activities of the project are related to the organization of the Day of Drin, which will take place in the summer-autumn period of 2014 and which aims to increase the understanding of the value of this natural wealth for people and ecosystems. The civil society as well as the local and national governments of the Drin Coast must build an emotional and respectful relationship for their river. A wide range of activities, such as cultural and sports events, educational and entertainment as well as the involvement of artists and personalities dedicated to Drin could inspire the public to be active for Drin in their daily lives.
Children, school students, village children, institutions and all citizens of Kosovo, especially of the municipalities where the Drini i Bardhë passes will be involved in the activities of the project at this stage. These activities aim to create a wide network of active actors in all governmental, non-governmental and society sectors.
Under the coordination of the Eye of Vision organization, the activities will be organized by seven non-governmental organizations: Western Gate, Marimangat e Peja, Let’s do it Kosovo, Era, Rugova experience, Fishermen’s Association in cooperation with municipalities and three universities. These activities will include municipal officials from the ten (10) municipalities of Kosovo where the Drini or its tributaries pass, artists and sportsmen, scientists, environmentalists, pupils, students and community members in the areas along the river’s course, with the aim of creating a wide network of environmental protection and conservation activists, but also to influence the local institutions responsible for drafting policies and adequate legislation.
With funding from the German GIZ, Drin Day takes place with regional cross-border activities not only in Kosovo, but also in Albania, Macedonia and Montenegro, countries that encompass the Drin basin. As part of the project, a website has been created that gathers Drini’s friends on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DriniFriends.
