Think Globally,
Act Locally

Press release

With the support of the EU and the implementation of the project by UNDP and the NGO Syri i Vizioni in Peja, on Wednesday, March 19, a workshop on gender budgeting was organized with representatives of the local government in the Municipality of Peja. The purpose of the workshop was for the new municipal directors, coming out of the last year’s elections in Kosovo, to become familiar with the needs of gender-based budgeting.
The invitation and consultations with the municipal directors have started for more than a month in order to find a date that can be adapted to the needs of the municipal officials and the mayor and directors have confirmed their participation. But despite this, only one director, the emergency and rescue directorate, participated in the workshop and officials from different fields were delegated.
We are disappointed with their non-arrival and we consider that such an approach does not guarantee that in this government there will be a good treatment of gender issues, nor a good partnership with civil society and donors, which our Municipality needs.
We remind you that the project was organized in partnership with two United Nations agencies, UNDP and UNWomen, and was financed by the European Commission.
Today, gender budgeting has become an important component of budget planning for all budget organizations. A good part of the projects, including those financed by the European Union, give an important role to the gender planning of the budget and have made it mandatory, for the projects in which the Municipality intends to apply in the future.
